How it all started:
It’s all Mike Rowe's fault. (The host of the TV show Dirty Jobs.) Back in 2006, he visited a farm that was shearing their alpacas and that was it for me. I thought to myself, I want to raise alpacas someday. A few years later I was reminded of my desire when I passed a local farm near my home. It was one of the largest farms on the east coast at the time and since they were only two miles away, I was reminded often. During the summer, my hubby and I would ride our bicycles past the farm and admire the alpacas. We both agreed that they were adorable. Eventually, I started the quest of how to start my own farm.
First, I had to find out how to start a company. That required lots of research, as would be required to establish any company. I also had to learn the new language of alpacas. This meant many hours of hands on training as well as lots of research to understand all that alpaca farming involves. Through this research period many alpaca farms offered invaluable assistance. Many farms willingly gave me free advice and training. It was this mentoring program that really gave me the extra boost to put Positively Alpaca into existence.
After much thought and reflection I approached my financial adviser (aka my husband). He agreed that alpaca farming had potential, and would not only be a good investment, but also an exciting endeavor. As the adviser for the company, he has played a crucial role in development and market focus. In addition to the desire and financial aspect of the business, it also became apparent that an artist perspective may be needed. For this need, I called upon my sister-in-law, Karen. Since she has the drawing skills that I lack, she was instrumental in the concept and design of our company logo.
This teamwork has resulted in a well founded and stable company that is determined to offer high quality alpacas and alpaca products. We offer our products online as well as at local markets. The farm is located just outside Reading, PA in a small town called Mohnton. Although the farm is not open to the public, appointments can be made to see our animals or purchase products.
With a brief overview of how Positively Alpaca Farm developed, I hope you will agree that alpacas are the way to go – Positively!
